Every Learner Is Different

 

A driving lesson can look very different depending on who is sitting in the passenger seat.

Some learners prefer to understand the reason behind an instruction before trying it. Others may learn better after watching a demonstration and practising themselves. Confidence can also change from one situation to another.

A learner who feels comfortable on a quiet road may become nervous when traffic gets heavier. Another person might control the vehicle well but struggle when they need to make their own decision.

This is where an instructor needs to do more than follow the same lesson pattern every time. Paying attention to how a learner responds can help an instructor decide when to explain, when to demonstrate, and when to let the learner try.

Patience is important, but learners also need opportunities to progress and become more independent.
